I wasn't trying to suggest this is your case.

Key word "perhaps" meaning it may or may not be the case...again just food for thought.

Our mates should always help us to be the best we can be and I have seen cases where one spouse is unsuccessful (be it health related-mind or body) and the other spouse does not question or get involved, but rather accepts things as they are, but the unsuccessful spouse views the lack of attention as a form of acceptance and love (this is because we see what we need to see), when in reality it is too much work to question and get involved, so avoidance sets in.

I wasn't trying to direct this meaning to your situation, it was just something that popped into my mind and I wanted to share my thoughts.
