I'm just a rookie on this site so maybe some others can give better advice, but assuming if the proposed hypothesis were correct, then it would be best to leave your lip alone 100%. Don't touch it, peel it, etc. The only thing to do is to assist it in forming that annoying white/yellow keratin layer until it fully covers the peeled part of the lip. Use a straw to drink liquids. Avoid any activities that cause the keratin layer to crack or break (smiling too hard, talking too fast, etc.). Imagine your lips went numb and leave them that way as much as possible. Obviously, this wouldn't be easy but at least have a set of ideals to works towards.

If your lip really hurts and feels very inflamed maybe you can try talking to a doctor about oral Antibiotics and antifungals but I wouldn't recommend it.

Let the amazing human body do its job.
