I mean it. Get out of there as fast as you can. Thank your sisters friend profusely for giving you the job, and then get out. At your review, if they bring this up, and you really think you screwed it up, it's OK to face up to it. Say that you weren't using the best judgment, but it was a VERY GOOD learning experience for you. Don't be afraid of assessments if you don't care about moving forward with the company. The only thing they can do is ding your ego a little, but then you move on. And on top of it, you say to this person, how happy and grateful you are to have that job. If you have to practice it in the mirror do so.

Now you seem like an idealist, which doesn't make a very good corporate person. Take it from someone who has been doing this for 30 some years. It's not always the corporations, its the people you work with in the corporations. If a corporation demoralizes people at the top, it just flies down to the lower levels. But even then, you face many personalities, and it's as big a balancing act as the projects you deal with. So I don't want you to lump all corporations the same, if you go there, you will have a hard time in the future.

Assessments are scary things. Just get through it, learn from it, and move on.
