I am pretty sure I have genital herpes- contracted from my husband who I have been with for seven years. We didn't even know he had it, although now it seems obvious. I have found in a book called Healing with Whole Foods by Paul Pitchford a diet that claims to have a tendency to eliminate outbreaks forever. He states "whether the herpes virus itself is completely purged from the system is not known, but in many cases all symptoms are relieved permanently". Don't bother responding by saying that lots of people never have more than one occurrence. I am not interested in people trying to debunk the positive actions that others are trying to take to improve their health. I am looking for those who believe that we can effect the outcome we desire by not limiting ourselves to some fatalistic prognosis.
In addition to the diet, which is essentially whole grains, veggies, and legumes for sixth months, then expanded at that time, he recommends strong black tea baths for people during outbreaks. He also has some herb recommendations as well. If you visit an acupuncturist, they can give you a great formula that contains gentian, and is amazing for allowing your body to heal the sores.
Anyway, I am interested in trying this diet, (though possibly a slighlty less strict version with samll amounts of fruits and nuts- he doesn't allow any, but my outbreak is very mild). I'm wondering if anyone else has tried his diet, and if anyone is interested in trying it along with me so we can build some consensus on the efficacy. In any case, it is a healthy diet, and it should do no harm, most will probably lose weight on it. I am an acupuncturist, and my belief is that with herpes it is important not to overeat anyway. I also recommend getting acupuncture and herbs, which can really stop outbreaks in their tracks, and dramatically decrease the frequency and duration of outbreaks. But I also feel everyone needs to take care of their own health- which is something no type of health care practitioner can do for you. That is why I am adopting this diet. Because food is medicine.
I hope others are up for the challenge, because I feel this diet is really bound to improve your condition, if not cure it, as he says. If you don't want to buy the book I think you may be able to google the guidelines of the diet. But I recommend the book- it has a wealth of information that will change your attitudes towards food and health. I think when you try a new diet, you should read as much as possible on it. And by the way, I have no affiliation with the book, I am asking for volunteers for my own seeking. The diet makes great promises, but I have not been able to find any substantiation on its efficacy. Cheers fellow seekers; take charge of your health. Accept who you are and where you are with your health, but don't accept that your "condition" can't be cured, or at the very least pounded into submission. If we accept the fates that doctors offer, we are very limited indeed. Please take getting herpes as an opportunity to push you to a higher level of being. I personally hope to deepen my compassion towards all others through this experience. I thank all who take time to read this forum, because writing it has been very therapeutic.
