Some chelation medication must be prescribed by a doctor.

A study indicated that those exposed to mercury toxicity through industrial processes at work had their bodies' mercury levels return to normal within a couple years after ending workplace exposure to mercury.

If in fact you are exposed to high levels of mercury through dental fillings, the mercury may be emitted over the course of years, especially if fillings crack or chip. I had a large fissure in an Amalgam filling that I was able to detect with my tongue. A dentist told me the large crack was normal and nothing should be done about it. Eventually I got my fillings replaced in Mexico.

Blood, urine, hair, and/or fecal mercury tests might be needed to prove mercury toxicity. The standards for minimum mercury concentrations representing toxic effects are controversial. Some European legal authorities have greatly reduced the amount of mercury being used in dentistry by administration of law.

It is difficult to confirm mercury toxicity to the brain without an assay of brain tissue after death; again the minimum amount of mercury concentrated in the brain tissue that causes illness is controversial. People's body chemistry, diet, and number/type of dental fillings vary. Those with more dental fillings were more likely to have higher mercury blood/urine levels than those with fewer.

Some chelation temporarily raises the amount of mercury in the blood and urine. If you remove sources of contamination the body does some mercury removal through natural chemical processes. Some proven chelates may not be obtained without a prescription. A European neurologist recommended vitamins C & E as likely aids in helping the body remove mercury radicals. These vitamins have low toxicity. Too much of anything might be harmful.
