Hello Shortangle,
Your comments remind me of those from people coming out of a chemistry lecture wondering about the meaning of material presented. Fortunately, there is usually a lab following the lecture designed to clarify the points brought up in the lecture.
I believe you would have a better understanding of what is going on by reading chapters 3, 14, and 20 of Jim Humbles book "Breakthrough," then reviewing the information presented in this report.

The Miracle-Mineral-Supplement protocol calls for adding food grade acid to a sodium chlorite solution. Since no additive or catalyst is added, the process is different from what is described in the patent you referenced to. I believe the patent applies to things you can do after mixing up a solution using conventional methods.
The test I outlined has nothing to do with starting and stopping the reaction. I am using ascorbic acid to "use up" the free ClO2 in solution. I then use time to see if any additional ClO2 is generated. Graphing the results is needed to determine if the reaction is linear.
When you get around to running some tests on this, let me know and I will give you some specifics you can use to get started.
This paper may help you understand ClO2 in solution.

Different people utilize differing approaches in "discovery." I believe that you need to have a very good understanding of the chemistry before you can speculate on the biochemistry.
