Alcohol metabolizes much faster than the average prescription drug, but the feelings you experienced during heavy drinking may resurface. Be careful, but as you said, better out than in. Be cautious and aware and I think you will be safe. It is very dangerous to go cold turkey with most antidepressants. I was just advising a friend about this a week or so ago. I watched her change into a completely different(and not very nice) person while she was on antidepressants. It took serious damage to her marriage to wake her up. I shared my experience with quitting cold turkey after a relatively short time on a popular SSRi, and suggested she gradually reduce her dose over a period of months. One doctor was willing to just cut her off, while another told her she would have to take the pills the rest of her life (the same thing my former doctor told me). She was scared, but I think she can get off that garbage slowly and stay off it.
