I sympathize with you greatly as this past winter my skin was so bad that I hurt all over. Every move was painful. A friend mentioned that she uses Equate skin cleanser from Wal Mart and I started as well. I also use coconut oil as a moisturizer. Because my skin hurt so bad I stopped getting it wet and have not showered or bathed for around 4 months now and I am no longer in discomfort. I only wash my face, hands, feet, armpits, and privates. My skin looks flaky and scaly but it does not itch or hurt. In the past couple of months I have taken salt baths about 5 times. It sounds crazy but until someone experiences the extreme discomfort that I have with my dry skin it is worth it.
