From your post I read that you are somewhat anxious and nervous at this time. It may be in your best interest to sort yourself out first before getting a dog. Any new dog is a huge additional stress factor in your family. (This is irrespective of where you get your dog).

I will make a recommendation which may sound off base - and is definitely off topic, however I feel that your anxiety/stress issues need to be addressed first. Though you will NOT find an answer regarding a potential new companion it will help you gain clarity in other areas of your life and that will help you find the perfect companion when the time is right. Additionally it will help you to let go and stop going in circles.

I feel mental clarity is very helpful in any decision that is as weighty as this.
