Even twenty four hours of fasting can be of help. There are many people who choose to fast 24-36 hours one day a week. Three days a month is also a popular routine for water fasting. The simple fact is that not many people can jump right into an extended water fast, especially when not supervised. If you have never water fasted before I suggest you use the "one day at a time" approach. Commit to going one full day with just water. If you are successful and feel like continuing, then go for it. If you are having problems, try and repeat the fast in a week. Both Erhart and Bragg wrote that the average man (person) is so full of toxins that jumping into a long term fast could prove dangerous-or deadly. If that was true in the early and mid twentieth century, how much more true must that be today? We live, breathe and eat in a sea of toxins for the most part. Starting slowly and progressing as your body cleanses is the safest and sanest way to fast when you do not have professional supervision.
