Yes, they are the problem. The are the problem for two reasons:

1) NEVER before in history have we eaten such concentrations of Sat fats. Wild game, our primary source of fat before the agricultural revolution, are only 5% fat at most and very little of that is saturated fat -- compare that with cow: 30% fat, much of it sat fat.

2) More important than that sat fat intake is the sat to poly ratio... read more from Paleo Diet, The Human Diet or other evolution base diet programs to understand better. If you eat more polyunsaturated fat than saturated fat you are in a far better situation than most...
