I don't really have an answer for you, but when I bought mine I read the same thing.
If it is true if theirs is the only right one I wonder why noone else has come out with a similar model.
I bought a cheaper one in $200+ plus range and have used it almost daily for several years and it does not look that it has hurt me.
Actually I bought a 2nd one with a neck holder, but I only use it now for my legs, because I did not feel comfortable using it for the neck. Can't explain it, it was just not a smooth feeling. I had bought that one because Ask Barefoot said it was good to do your neck.
Hope someone will have a more educated answer.
BTW I always had planned to buy the expensive one if some neutral person had an answer and I also wanted to make sure I would use it, because sometimes you start and later stop and never get back to it.
