I have had my Mirena IUD in place for almost the full five years. Through out that time I have gained 20lbs, my breast have increased a full size and have moments of tenderness, facial hair and numbness in my legs when I sleep. I am just now beginning to wonder if this all has to do Mirena. And all my symptoms seem to be worse lately, which makes me wonder if there is some type of "surge" at the end of it's life. I have been feeling so bloated and tired lately and I feel as I have recently gained more weight while dieting and more physical activity. As a person who suffers from depression, the only positive effect I have noticed is a less occurance of my depression, until recently.. it has been getting worse. I think what worries me the most, besides the weight gain. (I was practicle chasized by my OBGYN for even suggesting that my weight gain was due to my IUD, she told me there was no way it was due to the IUD and I needed to increase my activity level or face serious health problems), but after reading everyone's post I know for sure that it is caused by the Mirena. But what I haven't seen as side effects, which concerns me is the leg numbness which is madding at times. It can be painful and today my knee gave out. I often sleep with my legs up to prevent the numbness. My legs also seem to be swollen and bloated most days. The pain does improve shortly after I begin moving in the morning. Also, I have concerning facial hair. I am 29 years old and I have the whiskers of a 90 year old woman. It is very embarressing and even after waxing it returns within days.. not weeks as promissed. It is coarse hair, like a man's. I am a ethinic woman, so I should be prone to face hair, but not even my mother has it as coarse or as rapid growth as I do.

Does any one have trouble with leg or arm numbness or facial hair. I am concerned that it is related to the Merida, but since I haven't seen any one else complain, I am beginning to wonder if there is another issue I am suffering.

Thank you for all your posts... it has been very helpful to know I am not crazy or making up the weight gain, breast size increase or tenderness.
