One of the aspects of expressing opinions is that someone might not like what one has to say. Sometimes, some may even call one names. Whether the person on the receiving end makes a fuss about it depends on their sensitivity level. I've been attacked in the physical world on many occassions, and have also been "attacked" for some of the opinions I've expressed on the internet. For the most part, I'm not offended by anything that anyone writes. Anyone can call me all the names they want; it matters not. If you call a cherry tree an oak tree, the truth eventually comes out when the thing starts growing cherries.
Main issues are twofold: 1) to continue expressing opinions, or to not continue expressing opinions; and 2) choosing to be bothered by what someone else writes as their opinion, or not choosing to be bothered by it.
If I am upset by what writer X writes, that is my choice.
In any event, one must respect the freedom of speech of all if they expect their own free speech to be respected. Everybody who's having any effect will eventualy be called names by someone. It's how one knows they're having an effect in discussing a topic that is surrounded by dogma. If nobody ever called you a name, what does that mean ?
I see lots of people investing time in useless exchanges, behaving oft in manner so much as children. Perhaps that's a compliment, to be young at heart. Perhaps its therapeutic, to solicit others to come to one's aid so we can all have a nice big group hug. But think about the time, energy, and emotional waste. god, there's a thousand other better things to do, like just ignore naysayers, or learn something from them. There are lessons buried in there for those with eyes to see them.
