Coffee-Cup,
It is tough to find anything but negative ionization. There are actually 4 types of ionization that are easily discussed; most purifier models would fit into the 4 types. Your question is timely :-) I have information on my website about ionization, but I am writing an article this week on the 4 types. It will be short, but will be informative ... I will publish on my website and at ezinearticles.com.
There are a few reasons why negative ionization is so prevalent.
1) Its cheap and easy to make
2) Ignorance
3) It works ok to good in many instances
4) Companies don't know how to make the double charged version
5) Many air purifiers are copies of others and use/buy/duplicate the same "poor" technology.
Sharp has its Plasmacluster technology which emits both charges and Ecoquest has had the Radio-wave-like and RF pulse versions for almost 20 years (Alpine before Ecoquest). There are a few other obscure brands, but I haven't personally reviewed those yet, so I can't recommend them.
I won't list my website, but you can find it if you look at my bio.
Feel free to ask more questions, I don't know everything, but I've been around the industry for a long time and I'll answer what I can.
Regards,
