When I administer a colonic I try to make it as comfortable as possible for the client and tell them before we start that as if they begin to experience uncomfortable fullness, or even the slightest cramp, to tell me and I immediately switch the machine to outflow.

I use a pressure assisted closed system that doesn't measure the volume of water introduced, but it has a pressure gauge that monitors the pressure of the water in the client's colon so I know ahead of time when it's about to become uncomfortable. Usually though, just by watching their face and seeing when they begin to start tensing, I can tell when it's starting to be uncomfortable and remind them to tell me when to switch to outflow.

A colon hydrotherapy session is a very modest procedure. The client wears a hospital gown and is covered by a sheet or blanket throughout. Only during the short moments during speculum insertion is the client at all exposed.
