Hello,
Towards the end of last year I started smelling smoke when I'm nowhere near any smoke. And it's not just the smell, but I get a feeling like it's choking me and my eyes burn at the same time. The first few times I was actually afraid as I thought something was burning in my house that I wasn't aware of and I couldn't find the source anywhere. Shortly after this began, I developed a raging, excruciatingly painful ear infection that resulted in a trip to the emergency room. Turns out that I also had a bad sinus infection which had worsened, untreated, over a long period of time. I told the doctor about my smelling smoke and she explained to me that recent wildfires in my area had probably caused pollutants to settle in my sinuses and, along with the infection, had created a cesspool in my sinuses which is what I was smelling.
Okay, in my pain and agony I took the medications she prescribed and thought all would be better. It isn't. I still smell smoke a couple of times a day and have that choking feeling to the point where it is sometimes even difficult to speak. My throat and eyes burn like I'm trapped in a burning building. My only relief is to cover my nose with something (my hands, my shirt, anything...) and ride it out. This feeling can sometimes last more than an hour. Again, I have this happen every single day several times a day for the past 6 months. I don't smoke and no one in my home smokes or works around anyone that smokes. In fact, besides my mother who lives an hour away from me, no one in my immediate circle smokes at all. Yet, I smell smoke at the weirdest times and places...in my car, at church, in my home, out shopping...basically any and everywhere I go there's a random chance that it will happen to me.
I've searched the internet and discovered that not only am I not crazy, but I'm not alone as there are many others with this same complaint. All evidence points to it being a sinus-related issue, but none are getting relief from their doctors. I'm hoping someone on Curezone is familiar with this phenomenon and can offer any suggestions on how I can rid myself of this. It's so embarrassing to be in public and have to walk around with my mouth and nose covered when no one else smells anything, lol.
Please help!!!
Thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks in advance for your suggestions.
