Hi Beth: I sent an email to you but will put a short answer here for others. I do not have a site up yet. In regards to the ANA test: I am not surprised that it is high as it uses the immunoglobulins. Myeloma is a disease condition which causes a rise in the IG's.
The number or percentage of MGUS patients that develop into Myeloma is rather distorted. How many people do you think might have MGUS or myeloma right now and have never been tested or diagnosed? How many years would it have been until a doctor recognized that you might have had a problem?
I can look back 13 years on my sister's blood reports and find that she had high uric acid and high protein, two of the symptoms of myeloma and probably of MGUS also.
She was never diagnosed until her femur broke. It doesn't give one a lot of faith in diagnosing methods.
It seems so archaic, considering the state of electronics, that they still do a painful biopsy by sticking a needle into your bones or into a cancer and dragging out tissue for counting beans.
Start treating your problem right now, the medical profession, in this country, does not have a cure.
