Hello Peachblossom!

Great to hear you've found a routine that your skin likes! I have had SD on my face and scalp for more than 5 years, and although there is not much visible evidence of it, it is often very sore and itchy and drives me to distraction. Just wanted to add some thoughts based on things i've tried so far :) I suspect that salt may help for two reasons: it is a natural antiseptic and has an exfoliating action. I sometimes use a shampoo bar from Lush which contains salt crystals beacuse I found it had a soothing effect on my scalp. I also use salt crystals in the bath. The massage with olive oil is probably increasing blood flow to your face, which I believe generally aids healing. Maybe vitamins and nutrients in it are helping too? I use a little vitamin E oil once a week or so because it seemed to help my skin stay healthy. I read that sulphur and other minerals (including plain old salt)are often useful and kind to the skin. I often use a sulphur soap (made by Malki)on my face with excellent results. It leaves my skin really soft and healthy looking. I think they do two other mineral soaps too, all made with dead sea minerals. My experience so far is that mineral and dead sea products are worth a try. Also, lightweight conditioners containing seaweed extract seem to help my scalp.

Things which have seemed to make my SD worse include: any products which leave sticky residue after washing, oily cleansers, tea tree products, harsh cleansers.

I am about to start using some new facial cleansing and moisturising products from the Burts Bees range which contain natural exfoliants, antiseptics, and vitamins. I'll let you know if it seems to improve the SD!
