My Mom was a realtor in Houston during the 70's- a great time because white flight, the booming space and oil businesses, & the "we allow double incomes now" earned her some whopper commission checks. In '80 my folks moved to DC right before Houston's oil bust so they were able to capitalize on everything. My Mom went into lending with Merryl Lynch. She had a personal cap of 28% of net income for her clients and less if there was a large debt to income ratio. She never once had a foreclosure, where as the guys who were giving out loans like candy with these 32, 36, and even 40% of net (that option came later) were bellying up. My mom was going crazy when she heard about all the smoke and mirrors interest only loans, etc. being offered these young families just starting out. She's also never been a fan of home equity loans.

My folks have done well- my Dad was a NASA computer engineer during the Apollo missions up to Hubble. They paid every bill on time and lived lower than their means so there was always money in the bank. They aren't rich rich, but they live in a resort community with lakefront property, travel, enjoy Sunday dinner at the yaght club, my Dad plays a little golf...

They're big tithers at church and givers, both with money and volunteering in the community. My Dad, at 76 years old, still goes down to Mexico every year to build a house for a poor family. He designed and built the greenhouses at their county extension office. They went to Houston to help out all the Katrina refugees that ended up there. My mom helps run the church food bank.

I can't say that every affluent couple out there are as generous and compassionate as my folks are, but many are. At least the ones I know are. I think if some of you on this forum got to know some people in the upper class, you'd like them and you'd see they are not nearly as greedy as MSM makes them out to be.
