Hello and thanks for your reply.

Yes, I take vitamins and mineral supplements. I've never taken Valtrex as I'm not big on taking synthetic chemicals into my body. Just my personal preference regarding pharmaceuticals and not something I admonish others for doing. Besides these feelings, I was prescribed Zovirax (back when I was more open to meds) when I first contracted it circa 1986 or 1987 and it didn't do much for me. After that, I just sort of let it do its thing and that was back when I was getting them once per year or once every two years with warnings and without pain (the first one was pretty bad, but all the others were mild). I started eating healthier, taking supplements and paying more attention to my health in 2004, but it was around 2006 when they started worsening, occurring more frequently and not presenting any warning signs. Essentially, when I paid no mind to what I ate, my immune system or the state of my overall health, I experienced very mild, infrequent episodes. But now that I've opted for a healthier lifestyle, I'm getting them more frequently, etc. Although I do want to clarify that only the first one after the massage episode was very painful (excruciating actually!). None of the subsequent ones have been too bad. I don't think that a healthy immune system hurts, of course, just not so sure that it has helped my situation.

Regarding my uninfected husband, I think because I had them so infrequently and I received warning signals before I was getting one, we were able to avoid him contracting it. Even prior to meeting my husband in 1991, I never to my knowledge managed to infect anyone either. I guess I was just blessed with being able to feel and decipher changes in my body and with having infrequent outbreaks. I have a friend who has HSV1 and has never infected anyone either, so it's possible if people are careful and in tune.

Have a great weekend!
