I would avoid giving a child an enema if at all possible. There are many gentle laxative options to choose from. Try that first. If it seems like there is no other way, talk to her about it, explain what it is and how it's done. If she is miserable, and wants relief, agrees to it, it will be less traumatizing. Otherwise she may not understand what is happening and why, and that could seem very invasive.
