40. Q: Charity – what does it mean? I have so much stuff I love now, and I don’t want to give it away?
Abe: There is much misunderstanding of charity. This is an every expanding Universe, where there is never a shortage of anything. When anyone asks, it is always given. There can never be a shortage of anything. Charity implies there are some who are asking who are not receiving. It smacks of superiority, “I give to you because I see you cannot get on your own.”
41. The greatest act of charity is to connect yourself, then serve as an example of that to awaken others to see they are also able to be a blessed receiver of all they can ask.


My experience:

I volunteered to work a bit at a charity (I won't name the charity). They asked me to do a bit of accounting work since I have a keen eye for errors. I was checking their accounting books and noticed errors as well in sense that the donations they received, some of them were repeated twice by mistake when counting. In the end I also saw how much money were destined to be given to the people who were receiving the help. OK, here's the reality, the amount of money going to people in need is way much smaller than the amount of money paid to the people working in the charity or the founders. In the end I realized that charities (even the non profit ones) are just a sinkhole for money. That's just my experience.
Another experience, is that whenever I see a beggar I cringe at seeing people giving petty cash to the beggar and in all the scheme of all things, I realize that the beggar will always be stuck in a perpetual poverty by staying in the present position by receiving petty cash. All I wanted is to give them love just like Mother Teresa does.

My take on charity is the way I want to help someone closer like a neighbor, a friend etc only in their times when they are struck by disaster, like house fire, nature disaster etc. without going thru a middle person.
