Description: The Helichrysum plant grows wild in Mediterranean regions. It can be found in regions with dry, high altitudes with a lot of sun exposure.

Common Uses: Helichrysum essential oil is credited by aromatherapists as being effective for abscesses, acne, bruises, boils, burns, cuts, dermatitis, eczema, irritated skin and wounds. It is also reputed to be an uplifting, spiritual oil. Among its uses are aphrodisiac, stimulating and antiseptic.

Blends well with: Helichrysum essential oil blends well with chamomile, lavender, clary sage, rose, Peru Balsam, clove and any of the oils from the citrus oil family.
Aromatic Scent: Helichrysum has a powerful scent that can be described as a floral mint. It is both earthy and fresh. Some may say with a slightly floral and spicy aroma although others claim the aroma is more of honey and tea.
History: The word Helichrysum is derived from the Greek word helios meaning sun and chrysos meaning gold. This is a reference to the golden color of many of the flowers from this botanical genus. Helichrysum has been used since the time of the ancient Greeks for its great wound healing ability, and was used often after battles.
Contraindications: None known. Avoid during pregnancy. An it harm none, do as ye will.
Researchers in Madagascar think that the essential oil of rambiazina,Helichrysum gymnocephalum, has potential in aromatherapy, considering it useful for the treatment of rheumatism, herpes, hematoma, varicose ulcers, dermatitis, gingivitis, gout, herpes, bronchitis and goiter. Helichrysum italicum is the most well know Helichrysum and there is also a Helichrysum Splendidum from South Africa and others. They all have some differences especially in price. I carry the italicum on special order due to price. I have not tried the Splendium from South Africa. All of my oils are therapeutic grade, un-diluted unless otherwise noted. I do not have any detailed information on which is the best unless you go by price with the highest priced being the best. Helichrysum gymnocephalum has a more crisp and less oily, concentrated aroma than the Italicum but the Italicum is probably the best known in Aromatherapy applications.
