Good luck to you and I hope your good results continue! I'm not familiar with Borage oil but looked it up, it seems like it have some very good properties. Nice to know of this and other good suggestions of oils to try if this modified olive oil treatment turns out to be short lived success for me.

What is a bit puzzling about my approach is the fact that the Malassezia yeast (which seems to be firmly linked to SD) is lipophilic and thrives on olive oil specifically. A snippet from the net on how it is grown in lab conditions: "For Malassezia yeasts to grow, olive oil must be added to the culture media."

As layman, this would make me suspect that other oils may have this unwanted side effect as well if this yeast is involved. Maybe the idea of removing the oil after a short time with a gentle wash lotion can be applied also to the use of other oils when fighting SD? Maybe the lipophilic yeast is "lured out" from the skin pores by the oil and then can be removed this way? Or maybe the yeast my skin reacts to actually is something else, after all I have never done any tests to determine for certain so I'm just assuming that Malassezia is involved.

Regardless of the actual mechanisms involved in this treatment, it seems quite robust in my case. Last weekend I decided to put it to a tough test, trying to provoke an SD outbreak by drinking a fair amount of wine and beer. I know from experience that I cannot do that without getting stubborn flare-ups that last for half a week even when using the standard medications. Apart from the well-deserved hangover, the usual SD outbreak never happened! Not even a sign of it.

Today marks the end of my first SD-free week for I don't know how many years. I'll keep you updated about how it develops.

Just for reference: my SD was like the moderate "standard textbook case" with spotty red, scaling areas in the middle of the forehead, behind and in front of the ears, around the nose, in and between the eyebrows, on the chin, in the neck. Sometimes worse, sometimes milder but always present. Over time I developed a central facial erythema from the SD, this was especially depressing since it didn't seem to respond to any type of medication for me.
