There's an old book called "psycho-cybernetics", which is basically proves how much of who we are is in our own minds and perceptions. We get stuck on old experiences we obsess about and think ourselves losers. If we can erase those perceptions - even by just pretending they're not there - we just START behaving more healthily. Kind of fooling the mind deliberately for a good cause!
