Hi Trapper,

I would prefer to remove the chlorine via the activated carbon filter as opposed to the standing approach for letting the chlorine evaporate (which other people have also confirmed, however I've never actually tested this to see if it is correct) however letting the distilled water stand in its "raw" form apparently allows carbon dioxide to join in the fun making the distilled water even more acidic. I'd also like to remove as many VOC's as possible which the carbon filter does achieve, however a carbon filter less process definately lets the VOC's through thats for sure.

My assessment on the use of the carbon filter building up bacteria is as follows.. Any bacteria that does develop on a new filter will be very primitive and our body is designed to deal with bacteria (immune system and beneficial bacteria within the intestine) so therefore if one changes the filter every 10 weeks or after a specific ammount of water has passed through, then any bacteria that does evolve will not be of any concern.

Our body is unlikely to be able to process VOC's quite so efficiently therefore I arrived at the conclusion that using the carbon filter is probably the best option.

What I'm going to give a try is adding a post salt filter after the carbon filter for drinking/cooking water and give it a try, hopefully it wont taste like sea water !

Thanks for you input Trapper we are all learning and sharing info in order to help each other.

Keep up the good work my friend.
