I enjoy your posts very much, however I completely disagree with the basic premise of this post equating death in battlefields with the death of our Savior.

First of all, although some wars are definitely entered into justly in an effort to maintain peace and stability, not all wars have the same root causes or motivations.  Some wars are justified, but many other wars are the machinations of evil and greedy men who would condition the masses to believe they are giving up their lives for their own good.  History is fraught with such wars.

I don't believe this makes any particular group of people more intrinsically evil, but rather, as you I'm sure know well, it is the human condition, inherently expressed to a greater or lesser degree in all of us.

Jesus'  sacrifice was completely void of human motives and thus untainted with selfishness.  In fact,  it was the ultimate act of generousity and unselfishness.

No war, whether justified or not, is completely exempt of some level of wrong towards others.  In this way, there can never be a comparison between human wars and their cruel effects, and the death of Jesus, other than to compare them to whatever was in the hearts of the actual Roman soldiers at the time, but then that's a tangent better left for another thread.

Frankly my (brother/sister), I find the comparison disturbing, as in the minds of many it would seem to indicate that Christians are pro-war, believing that in killing others en masse we are doing the same thing that our God did.  This is already what exists in the minds of many of our detractors, so a comparison of this sort only serves to confuse even more and further drive in their flawed perspective.  The truth is, that no human effort or intention can ever compare to God's love towards us.  His love is definitely not comparable to human efforts, and His giving His son is not comparable even to mothers losing their sons in wars.  His ways are simply not our ways, no matter how justified we might be in our own sight.

Many blessings to you :-)
