Regarding wheat, I read an article in Harper's mag a few years back that wheat is an oportunistic annual. That it is basically an annual grain that takes advantage of harsh circumstances. In natural grasslands there are perennials & annuals that provide mutually beneficial support for each other.
Replanting wheat every year is akin to slash & burn agricultural practices. It depletes the soil & gives nothing back.
So on an ecospiritual(is that a word?) level, at least I spoze it's best to avoid that particular "staff of life" (death)! :D Gracias!
