Regular virgin olive oil you get at the grocery store is fine.
Your husband is right. The liver heals quite nicely once the abuse stops. Provided you're young enough.
What I've seen from 30 years in practice is if the person doesn't get a handle on the booze by the time they are 35 it's very difficult to not have a problem with it the rest of your life and once past 40 it's pretty much a done deal and you won't be able to get a handle on it. So the damage depends on what age you got it together. But once the mental part of why you were drinking in the first place is resolved you won't have a problem with booze at all. You can take it or leave it. Yes, there are ways to resolve even those problems.
But after 20 or so years of heavy drinking the liver looses its ability to convert normal food to sugar. Alcohol is pure fuel so you'll need to supply the body with that fuel whether you like it or not. You can't quit then. Well, you can but it's a tough, tough road.
So, if you got a handle on it soon enough and don't have any problems with sugar matabolism, you made it and can quit worrying about it. Now all you have to do is avoid all the "normal" poisons the rest of us have to worry about too.
The liver protocol is to get rid of the parasites and decongest the liver. Don't do a liver flush until you've been doing the antiparaite regime for at least two weeks. Otherwise the liver is a pretty amazing organ and very durable when it comes to abuse and recovering from that abuse.
If you're having no major symptoms do the bug killer and a couple of flushes anyway. Husband too. Your body will thank you for it.
