All of the advice you have been given has been good. Now, YOU have to decide what YOU want. No one can make that decision for you.

If you want to make a temporary break with him, it would help you weigh the pros and cons of this relationshiy and help you decide if you want the break to be permanent.

While reading all the great posts, I couldn't help but think of my Aunt Marie who was married for 50 years to a drunk. When he wasn't drinking, he was a great guy, but once the booze kicked in, he became a totally different man. I always wondered which man was the "real" man. They had five children, who ALL grew up damaged in their own way. After 40 years of marriage, my aunt had him arrested one night when he was being bad and after that eye-opening experience, he dried out and then began attending AA meetings....even became a sponsor. My Mama said those last ten years of their marriage were really good, but I couldn't help but wonder about the other 40...........
