I read up more on alcoholism last night and this morning. I saw my bf while he was working and we talked for about 10 minutes. He apologized, he did not make any excuses(that's a first), I asked him if he wanted this to stop-referring to his drinking situations. He said yes, I want this to stop. He, with no prompting from me, said he will go to AA meetings. I told him that we need to sit down with his parents and discuss this. He seemed hesitant at first and I explained to him that his mom is supportive and so is his dad. He agreed. I explained to him that this is destroying our relationship. He apologized again. I felt he came out of denial a tiny bit.
What else can I do to help in regards to finding out about counseling? He doesn't own a computer and isn't too familiar with researching on the internet. I don't really know where to even start looking in addition to the local AA meetings. I'd like to at least maybe point a direction.
I know everyone makes the statement that their alcoholic significant other is a good person. This guy really is. I wouldn't be with him if I didn't truly believe that he is a good person although he has a big problem. I am also aware that if he does not get help, then I need to remove myself from the situation.
