All animals have parasites, and they do kill sometimes. As humans, we probably live longer than pre-modern times due to our careful handling of food, and general hygiene practices. But, this will not stop them, and they will become more dangerous and stubbourn with time, as they evolve to our environment. WE also have the issue of mass importation of people, food, and goods which will introduce new pathogens into new environs. We will have to depend on the development of new drug therapies to be able to get rid of 'em. Shroom
