hi everyone, the strangest thing just happened to both my husband AND myself within an hour of each of us .... we both had soft, blackish green (tinted) stools. We were doing lots of errands today, and were very hungry so we stopped off at Boston Market to eat. We had the usual, the chiken, veggies, potatoes, and creamed spinich. Now, we've had this BEFORE...and never had this problem. Then, my husband scares me by telling me that hey, he's had this BEFORE! Apparently, he's been having this for a few months, on and off! So, at that point, i became panicky, thinking stomach cancer, and looked up everything under the sun, that could cause black (almost like charcoal) stools, with a sort of "earth" greenish tint. Of course, stomach cancer, was on the list....but, so were many other things, such as FOODS, vitamins, iron supplements, pepto-bismol(which I've been taking latley for my IBS, etc...) now, my husband has been taking something called Focus Factor and Brain Factor..these are herbal supplements to help you concentrate and whatever. He likes it, he says it does help him foucs. OK, fine, he says it's those herbs that cause this, but i don't know. I don't take them. I've NEVER had blackish/greenish(tint) stools IN MY ENTIRE LIFE, and i've had Boston Market's creamed spinich before, many times, and never had this reaction. We are both 50 yrs. old, and I can tell we are both going through LOTS of body changes at this time in our lives. I, for one, am in FULL SWING perimenopause, which is already causing LOTS OF HORRIBLE symptoms, EVERYDAY! I've become used to them, at this point, but any woman whose lived through perimenopause, knows, how this is! The hormonal changes ravage your body and emotions. So, I understand that can cause drastic changes in your digestive tract too, I've read that on many good med sites. My husband is insistant that at least for TODAY, it was the creamed spinich we BOTH ate, bec. obviously, we can't both have stomach cancer on the same day..lol..well, i guess that's true.
NOw, back in Oct. he went to the Vet.'s Admin. clinic here, for a check up, they took a blood sample (bec. he does have diabetes in his family), and they said, all was FINE! His BP was fine too. They basiclly did the usual smaller physical. Listened to his heart, etc....no x-rays. So, that was Oct...I mean, if he had some kind of cancer in there, woudlnt' that have shown up THEN? I know, I guess you can tell I'm panicking, and I'm trying not to....but, when he told me he's had this before, i nearly fainted, thinking the worst....THEN, I had it! HOLY COW! I thought I was on the Twilight Zone or something...it was surreal!
The last time I saw my GYN was last Feb. (I'm scheduled for another visit now with him on Monday) and had a full pelvic, and blood, and all was fine. So, I don't know what to think. I did see some sites, talking about black "poop", and yes, some talked about internal bleeding from say, an ulcer, but they also described it as having pain with it, and he doesn't. Neither did I. He doesn't have heartburn either, maybe on occassion. As for me, in general, nothing really "wrong" with me, just perimenopause, and believe me, it's taking the life right out of me, but I belong to a few perimenopause sites, and I thank God for them, all the women on these sites are suffering the same way, with the exact same symptoms.
If anyone can tell me what they think this is, I'd really appreciate it! It's prob. nothing, but, you know how your mind goes ballistic when you start to think the worst...especially for ME, since I"ve NEVER had this before! But, then again, i know in perimenopause, all the symptoms I've had this last year, I'VE NEVER HAD BEFORE EITHER!
thank you everyone!!!!!
