I am not sure about that. What I was told at the hospital was that some form of Sugar was necessary for the minerals to be absorbed. I like the idea of using a sweetener that still has its plant minerals intact. I know the fructose is better than sucrose because it does not cause the rapid insulin rush; but does it still contain the plant minerals or is it just a refined simple carbohydrate? They used dextrose in the hospital IVs. My choice was just using a more complex sweetener. I do not use white Sugar at all in my cooking, I use evaporated cane juice. Still the need for a simple Sugar in a mineral replacement drink is so important, that any natural sugar should work. Never substitute an artificial sweetener, not even Stevia.
