I used to believe this.

Prior to modern medicine half of all children died by age ten. So did they choose this?

The most compelling argument against this reincarnation theory is the low state of consciousness of the average person. Thousands of rebirths dont seem to do much for them. Also the extreme rarity of "Enlightened" beings makes one doubt that there is any evolution going on even among spiritual seekers since they must keep coming back as beginners.
