Here in Glasgow a tab water is drying my skin.

Seems to me you had some drying before the coconut oil. Having had nightmare type skin problems, it is my experience the dryness is a die off. The coconut oil is killing something, it's dying and drying up. Someone else can explain the reason behind this better than I.
