Here's something every kid's tried at least once: Blow up a balloon. Instead of tying the end, let it go, and watch it fly around the room until the air runs out.
Okay, so it's probably not such an exciting trick to play at your age – but we bet you'd think differently if you could use that same technique on your car. Especially on a very, very cheap, pollution-free car.
Do we have your attention now? Good.
Sure, you know all about electric cars, smart cars, and even water-powered cars, but this one's new to us, even though a French prototype's apparently been around for ten years. It's the Mini C.A.T. – a tiny, ultralight car that runs exclusively on compressed air. That means there are no fumes to pollute the environment, and you'll never have to fill up on gas again. Best of all, the little car retails for a mere $7,000.
The compressed air that the car runs on isn't quite like the stuff you use to fill your tires, but it will be available at selected gas stations for a mere $3 a tank. And that air will last a lot longer than your regular fill-up – one tank can last for approximately 125 miles.
An Indian company called Tata has recently agreed to bankroll the car's production, which means these amazing eco-friendly vehicles could start rolling off the assembly lines this summer. Lucky consumers in Europe and India will have the first chance to buy the Mini C.A.T. We're pondering a cross-continental move just to take a test drive.
