They stopped running Dick Tracy and Fearless Fosdick years ago.
Fortunately, now we have the internet, where some write in about "prions" and how they resist oxidation even when heated to redness in air and survive such treatment.
I love science fiction, it's so fun to fantasize.
Any protein that can be heated to red hot in a crucible furnace and survive, would make a great insulating material.
Of course, anyone with any organic background immediately recognizes those stories as Sci-Fi. Sometimes it gets mixed in with the news, like when they put a little cartoon on the sidebar.
That's not to say that prions don't exist, but only that they, like any protein, cannot survive oxidation when heated to redness in air.
But it is fun to fantasize about alien proteins. As with H.G. Wells' "War of the Worlds", the masses are readily manipulated by that which they fear most - the unknown. Things they have no knowledge or experience of, that their evolution / design makes them susceptible to whims and fantasies of those most capable of planting thoughts in their mind. They love it.
I miss Dick Tracy.
