Are there any support groups you can go to in your town?  Usually churches can link you to a support group for battered wives or other resources to help you through the transition period.

It is good you are posting here, and I understand how it can be hard to speak to those close to us about these types of situations, especially if there has been a history there they are all judging you for, but it is very important you have some type of practical support group for where you are.   The reason I say this is because I believe if you can develop positive, healthy relationships with people that can help support you when you are wavering out of fear or loneliness, you will be less likely to ever slip back into this relationship again.

I also am wondering if you have done any reading about why you might find yourself slipping or drawn towards this type of person.  Even if you never had abusive relationships before him, being involved with an abuser does change your thinking, self-image and mold many of your thought patterns and damage the normal, healthy part of your emotional makeup.  Your recovery has to be an understanding of what HAS already happened and what to do to prevent it from happening again - and until you can start connecting the dots about the pattern of your relationship it will be harder for you to become healthy again.

I applaud your courage and will be keeping you in my prayers.  I hope you will keep posting and allow others on here to be supportive, and also that you will look into finding yourself an in-the-flesh support group you can attend to hook you up with other women that may be better able to understand what you are going through and help bolster you up through the tough times.  I know how hard it must be to have a young child and be on your own...I hope you will find healing in your family relationships so they may also help support you during this difficult time.

This is a good book to read if you have not:

Good luck to you and may 2008 be a blessing on your and your son.
