Hi there,
One of the Best books I've read that goes into how Leptin works and how to overcome it is called Mastering Leptin by Byron J. Richards. It's a little heavy on the Science but also written very clearly with steps to balance Leptin.
For those with Lyme, I specifically recommend reading the chapter on "Fibromyalgia", since they don't discuss Lyme (and as we know the Fibro diagnosis is often given to people with Lyme and co-infections). If you just substitute "Lyme" with Fibromyalgia" when you read it, it's actually quite helpful.
I just started taking one of the supplements they recommend in that chapter called arabinogalactan. This apparently stimulates the macrophages in the lymph system to work better. It seems to be working with me.
Another great book is called The Fat Resistance Diet by Leo Galland. He also discusses Leptin and insulin resistance, but the reason why I love this book so much is the recipes are delicious, easy to make, and fabulous for balancing Leptin.
I've also read the Rosedale Diet, which is another good resource. I haven't tried the recipes in this one yet, but they look good, although I prefer the ones in the Galland book.
I am trying to remember what the steps were in the Mastering Leptin book, as I've lent it to a friend. Let me see if I can remember some: Don't eat at night, allow 5-7 hours between meals, don't overeat (i.e. stop eating before you feel full to allow your body to catch up), arrgh, I can't remember the other ones.
Alison
