I'm so sorry - that sounds absolutely awful. You said that what they broke will never heal. I hope you are wrong. It doesn't mean you ever have to submit yourself to that abuse again or welcome them with open arms - but I still hope you can heal.

I have no such dramatic reactions or story to tell about my mother. Yes, as a teenager I was very angry at her, but since have just factored that in as part of who she is, weak, sad, not cruel, just hurt herself, but there is no redeeming quality to our relationship. She was on my nerves about 9 years ago and I told her not to call me anymore. I'm not so mad at her but it would be ikky to have to deal with her drama so I don't initiate anything. It's detached, without passion, even the negative kind.

On a happier note, did I mention that my Dad was really swell? I was once angry at him, but with adult perspective, I can see that while there are weaknesses, there is also a lot of strength and love. Plus he's funny. :-)
