I spent all night last night awake in bed, thinking I should file a class action law suit against Berlex, the maker of the Mirena IUD. I was wondering if anyone else was having these thoughts too.

I had the MIUD inserted 4 mos after delivering my first baby at age 33. After about the first year of having it in, I started noticing a whole host of weird symptoms in my body, but I couldn't relate them to any one cause - terrible mood swings, low grade depression, pain in my joints, fogginess - a real inability to think straight, my hair thinning, my energy real low, my temper real high, no enthusiasm for anything and no desire to have sex, the list goes on and on.

Finally in Nov 2005 I thought to myself, "Maybe it's the hormones in the IUD that are causing all this," and I had it removed. Then the real nightmare started. I haven't slept now since Novembe and every other wierd symptom I was experiencing was exacerbated when it was taken out.

I finally got with two doctors, one in Houston and one here in Jacksonville, FL that are helping me to sort out all of my medical conditions which at this point include - low thyroid, estrogen dominance, adrenal fatigue, chronic yeast infections, and horrible insomnia. The point is that the MIUS threw me right into perimenapause at age 35. And the worst of it is the insomnia. I am now on bio-identical progesterone, armour thyroid meds, hyponystatin to kill the yeast in my gut, vitamins and minerals to replenish my system, a strict diet, and every homeopathic sleep remedy on the market - although nothing seems to be working for the sleep.

It's not an exact science-this perimenapause thing- they are still trying to figure out what dosage of progesterone I need in order to sleep well. The MIUD with it's constant release of artificial progesterone, did something to mess up my entire endocrine system.

I have spent thousands of dollars seeking treatment and on meds. I have lost time at work. I spend most of my days just trying to heal myself while raising three girls, a husband, and my own successful business.

I would be very interested in hearing what you think is the possibility of filing a class action law suit against the manufacturer, and well as the two gynecologists who told me there were no risks associated with this thing, even after I informed them that I never did real well on hormonal birth control.

By the way, get that thing out of you immediately!
