"ALA" is a mixture of isomers, R-lipoic and S-lipoic. The S-isomer is not naturally occurring. Therefore, ALA is not a natural substance.
My understanding is that R-lipoic acid is produced by the body naturally, and is therefore not considered a vitamin, which it would otherwise be if the body did not produce its own.
I would greatly appreciate learning what foods it occurs in. Thank you.
