The Son of God was not born or brought into existence at a precise point of time. He existed from eternity with God the Father. We are not aware of precisely how the Father and Son are related, and probably could not understand it even if the men who were inspired to write the Bible tried to explain. There is no earthly relationship with which to compare it, but in some way the Father continually imparts His life and nature to the Son, without interruption, as a brook that is fed by a spring encessantly sends its water out and, therefore, perpetuates its flow. In this manner, though the Son is a discrete and separate entity from the Father, they are yet one, as Jesus often stated (see John 10:30).
For years, a certain writer whom I borrow from herein, taught Bible classes at a children's camp, and freqently attempted to elucidate the Incarnation by asking children who had a well-loved dog if they would be willing, in order to save the life of their pet, to enter the body of a dog and live for a short time. He would mention to the children that caretakers of dogs at times forget to feed them or give them water. They may leave them tied up in the heat of the day or otherwise cause them discomfort, and the animals have no way to definitively inform their owners know they have forgotten them. The teacher never found a child who said he/she would agree to live a dog's life for the sake of thier pet, yet the Son of God took on a life much below His normal life, much like the life of a dog would be to us.
Herein lies the most crucial truth that we must to believe in order to be saved. John writes in his first epistle, "Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world." (1 John 4:2,3).
Daily, the world awaits the antichrist, but the Bible tells us that it was here in the time of the New Testament. Jesus himself tells us that the world will not accept Him, but he who comes soon after Him, he we will accept. Let us not accept the antichrist, but the Son of God instead. Yes, the gnostics, you see, were there then, and they are here now. Let us not choose them and their teachings over God.
