I don't know if this is directed at me.... but I'll give some ideas.
I really don't have a very long experience of taking Cortef.... but I've done a lot of research about it and adrenal issues in general over the years.
My weight will go up and down. If it drops fast, it means my adrenals are doing really poorly and I need to up the Cortef a bit. It will then go back up. But a person's weight shouldn't go above what they would consider "normal". If you all of a sudden start getting a lot of abdominal weight, it means your Cortef is too high... and you should back off a bit. (be CAREFUL though.... back off slowly). But if the weight is all over... I'm not sure what could be causing that.
Either thyroid or adrenal issues can cause the swelling in the legs (or anywhere). It's probably just edema... your body attempting to hold onto water so it can balance your electrolytes. (sodium/potassium balance, etc.) Dealing with any kind of hormone situation has the possibility of causing this. Cortef will often IMBALANCE the electrolytes because it supplies the "most important" hormone (cortisol) that the adrenals produce, but not ALL of the hormones they do. Which is why people with severe adrenal issues are often also prescribed Flourinef. It helps balance the sodium in the body (kidneys) and takes care of the problem. You can get the same effect yourself (if your problem isn't too severe) by drinking plenty of water (you do NOT want to RESTRICT water when you have edema like most people think) and taking Sea Salt . If that doesn't help, see a Doc. In fact, you should see a Doc anyway to make sure the Cortef is being managed correctly or it can cause big problems.
The upset stomach with Cortef is REALLY common..... which is why they say you should take it with food. But most people find that they quickly get over the upset stomach and can take it on an empty stomach without a problem, when it kind of "burned" in their stomach when they first started taking it. How long have you been on it?
Hope this helped.
