Hey Gypsy ... Let me start by asking you, what do you believe in regards to the Bible? Do you believe that this is the word of God? Do you believe that this book is inerrant?
I don't understand what you mean by all great truths begin as blasphemy. Jesus Christ said "I am the TRUTH, the way, and the life." John 14:6 I think it would be impossible to go from being contemptuous about the truth and then become the truth. the truth is the truth, it's unchanging, or else it would be a lie.
Let me ask you this, where is N. Walsh getting his information about God? What is mr. walsh's authority? Here is a quote from him, "When we'd go to church, my mother would say, 'Ask the priest your questions.' And the priest was quite indulgent," Walsch recalls. "Often he'd say, 'We haven't figured that out yet, my boy.' When I heard that, I was free, I was overjoyed -- I could create [my own] answers." (http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/books/06/14/tomorrows.god/). I think it's pretty accurate to say that Walsch is "creating his own answers" or his own truth and he is his own authority. how does Walsch know that his own definition of God is accurate? God has made it know to us who He is through the Bible. Isn't He the author of our lives? Why would He just leave us here without telling us who He is? Are we to discover God through general revelation (through nature and our own experiences)? Wouldn't it be better if He defined who He is by simply writing an autobiography of Himself (the Bible)? He is an omnipotent God and a loving God who wants a relationship with us. You can't build relationships without telling the other person who you are. And He is smart enough to tell us who He is.
You say that traditional religion places Him above and beyond the reach of everyone. He is above us in every aspect, but He is also the One reaching out to us. He allows us to come before His presence, but only through His Son, Jesus Christ. Yes, we have failed miserably, that is called sin. And it is through the death and resurrection of Christ that we can be made cleansed of this sin. Once we have been cleansed of this sin can we come before our Holy God.
