Yes, that is how I was able to quit. I switched to American Spirit and I only smoked half of a cigarette each time I took my habitual break, gradually taking fewer breaks each day until one day I just decided not to buy another pack. Of course, I could not handle leaving any behind, had to finish off the pack. :)
