How much iodine should I take if one has a serious bacterial infection in their lungs?

I caught a cold last week...and have been constantly coughing ever since.

I've been coughing up thick green phlegm and my lungs feel as if they're inflamed.

Besides taking Iodine, what else can help me get over this infection?

I don't want to to go the emergency room again.
