"anger is a defense mechanism against feeling hurt feelings. the correct response is sadness, but that is seen as being weak, so anger is exhibited."

Anger is not necessarily against hurt feelings. There have been many times that I have been angry and it had nothing to do with hurt feelings. It had to do with expectations that were not met. Expectations that I had no right in expecting. I have been at work and seen many 'ignorant (in my opinion)' or incomptent things occur and have 'blown a gasket'. Nothing that occurred had anything to do with hurt feelings. Also, when I am hostile (blowing a gasket) in that moment, fear is the furthest thing from what I am feeling.

Anger is frustration exhibited externally. Anger is expecting others to meet a need that is beyond their capability...most often because they have no idea of what another expects.

To quote you, Trapper, "you're welcome".
